Vice President Mike Pence Shares New Details About The Space Force

In a speech at the Pentagon, Vice President Mike Pence detailed the Trump administration's plan to get the United States Department of the Space Force up and running by 2020. Pence said they will establish the U.S. Space Command, which will be run by a four-star officer. They will also create the Space Operations Force, which will recruit members from other branches of the military along with engineers and scientists. The final branch of the Space Force will be the Space Development Agency, which would handle buying satellites and equipping the other divisions with the tools and supplies they need.

"Now, the time has come to write the next great chapter in the history of the Armed Forces of the United States – to prepare for the next battlefield where America’s best and bravest will be called to deter and defeat a new generation of threats to our people and our nation," Pence said.

He warned that space "has fundamentally changed in the last generation," and "other nations are seeking to disrupt our space-based systems and challenge American supremacy in space as never before."

Pence said that "peace only comes through strength. And in the realm of outer space, the United States Space Force will be that strength."
