So an article about football is way past due.  I’ve mostly been writing about hockey and baseball since I can write about specific games, but I have not forgotten about football.  It’s always on my mind; I just haven’t really felt like writing an article in which I just list the free agency pick-ups and releases.  If you want that, you can head over to the ESPN website.  Click here to see the Skins’ Free Agency tracker.

SO. I would really like to start off this football article with a hugeeee shout-out to Reed Doughty.  After I liked his official fan page on Facebook, I shot him a message asking if he’d be interested in promoting my blog.  Which he did.  Within 24 hours.  If you don’t believe me, check it out here! It was awesome. I’m still psyched.

Okay, I know that’s a lot of links.  But still.  Definitely gotta show the love to players who are not only talented on the field, but also stand-up guys.  It’s no argument that the NFL has a few less-than-worthy role models, which is why it is so important to recognize the ones who are.  Reed Doughty is definitely one of them.

So in other news.  I’m boosted the Skins resigned Logan Paulsen.  I like him a lot.  AND they resigned Fred Davis.  Cooley has yet to be resigned, but I’m pretty sure he’ll be back with the Skins IF he plays another season.  But who would you pick to start at TE?  Paulsen or Davis?  It’s obvious Davis has the talent (he was the Redskins Offensive Player of the Year in 2011), but with his off-the-field-issues and his injury last year, he may now be a step behind Paulsen.  And ahead of both of them is Niles Paul.  *Bonus: Paul’s first NFL TD was against the Cowboys on Thanksgiving.  If that’s not a good sign, then I don’t know what is.

Andddd Fletcher is coming back to the Skins.  Words cannot explain how happy this makes
me.  I know I said I like to debate, but let me just state a fact: Fletcher > Ray Lewis.  Okay, if not better, than at least just as good.  Come at me with your Lewis facts and I’ll back up the
Fletcher ones.  Especially if Fletch plays this season cause he’ll pass Lewis in tackles and sacks and will break their currently tied record of forced fumbles.  Plus, he hasn’t missed a game (knock on wood) since he started playing in 1998.  And he freaking plays linebacker.  Also, he’s another stand-up guy.  He’s a team leader and never has any off (or on) the field issues.
WIN.

(Check out the statistical comparisons from a Mr. Irrelevant article written in January)

D. Hall is coming back.  I’m excited.  I’m a Hall fan and not just because I’m a Hokie.  Some people can be negative and hate on his “attitude,” but at least he cares about the team.  And can intercept the ball unlike some DB’s who refuse to get eye surgery and drop balls that hit them in the numbers.

Now riddle me this: why did the Skins resign RGIII?  Seriously, what is Rex Grossman III going to contribute to the team this season? The Skins now have Griffin III as their obvious starter, barring any lingering issues from surgery, Cousins as a stellar back-up (seriously, why did people want to trade him? The Skins NEED a legit #2 QB), and recent pick-up Pat White (random, but I can dig it).  I highly doubt they keep all four quarterbacks on their roster.  We’ll see.

I’m bummed that Lorenzo Alexander is gone.  I definitely liked him and he was a beast on Special Teams.

And that’s all for now.  As I said, I don’t want to just list everything that’s gone on in Free Agency.  If any of you have suggestions about other players who deserve mentions (positive or negative) let me know!

Hail to the Skins and cheers to the fact that the Skins are no longer referred to as the “Offseason Champs.”
